Following the terms of our contract is a requirement when a puppy is adopted from us. The following is a summary of the Terms of our contract:
Care
- Provide puppy with all needed vaccines and de-worming before the age of one.
- Give the dog yearly vaccine boosters.
- Keep the puppy/dog on heartworm prevention.
- Provide the puppy/dog with additional veterinary care as needed to keep puppy/dog healthy.
- Puppy/Dog is to be kept on recommended immune support vitamins for a minimum of the first year of life.
- Dog should ONLY be fed one of the accepted brands/recipes that are noted on the “Safe Foods” page. (Additional information concerning the importance of this can be found on the “Feeding Goldens” and “Diet and DCM” articles)
Housing and Transportation
- Do not allow your puppy/dog to ride unrestrained in the back of a truck or open vehicle.
- Never leave your puppy/dog in extreme temperatures (either outdoors or in a vehicle)
Ownership
- Puppy/dog can never be given to another person.
- Puppy/dog cannot be given as a gift to anyone outside of your immediate family. You must reside with the family member the puppy is being adopted for.
- To purchase a puppy for a friend, contact me and I will happily supply you with a Gift Certificate.
- You cannot turn your puppy/dog over to a shelter under any circumstance.
- If you cannot keep your puppy/dog you MUST return it to Regency Ranch. You cannot sell or rehome your puppy/dog to anyone else outside your family. We work hard to make sure our puppies go to good homes. However, we understand that sometimes life happens and for some reason you cannot keep your puppy/dog. In this case it is important that we can find your puppy/dog the right home.
Stipulations
- Puppy is to be sterilized (spayed/neutered) by the age of 24 months.
- You will keep in touch with Regency Ranch at least once every two months to update us on the puppy. This will continue until the puppy is one year of age. This should be done via Band, Facebook, or phone.
- If we contact you due to lack of contact, you must respond within seven days unless there are extenuating circumstances. If you do not, you could be considered in breach of contract.
- Puppy/dog will be brought back to Regency Ranch if he/she cannot be kept by adopter.
- Both forms (Verification of Vet Services and Verification of Sterilization) will be returned. If not, the health guarantee will be voided.
- Agree that Regency Ranch can conduct a follow-up review if the welfare of the puppy is in question. (This has never had to be enforced, but it is there for protection of puppy/dog.)
- Puppy must be registered through AKC within the first two weeks of ownership.
- The microchip provided by Regency Ranch must also be registered within the first two weeks of ownership.
Release
- Agree to approve release of your puppy/dog to Regency Ranch if they have been found and you cannot be reached. This allows Regency Ranch to pick up your puppy/dog if it ever found by an individual or a shelter. This is only used when you cannot be reached. (This approval was added because of a past experience. I had a puppy family who was out of town and their pet sitter accidentally let their dog out. The dog was then picked up by animal control. I did not have a contract that stated I could pick up the animal. Animal control refused to allow me to pick up the dog. It was a hassle for the owners to convince animal control to allow me to pick up the dog. Nonetheless, this was important so the pup would not have to spend the rest of the week in the shelter.)
Guarantees and Refunds
- The standing health guarantee.
- A full refund, minus reservation fee, is given if the pup returned to the breeder within 72 hours of pick-up.
- No refund of monies if a puppy/dog is returned after 12 weeks of age.
- Adopter has six months from date of return to adopt a new puppy for $300.00 (reservation fee) if puppy is in good health and current on vaccines when returned.
