Guardian Angel Homes

There are a few reasons we will adopt out young adult/adult dogs. For those that adopt our adults, I call them our Guardian Angel Homes. This is because I am trusting you to give one of our special babies a wonderful life for the remainder of their days. Here is why we may need to rehome a puppy/dog…

Test Results

-1- The OFA and/or the PENN Hip tests results are not within the range that we require to use for breeding. (It is very rare that a puppy/dog will come back showing dysplastic tendencies, but if this is a result of the test, it will be divulged.)

-2- We get a puppy from another breeder and their DNA testing comes back as affected with a recessive genetic issue.

What is best…

-1- We have a female that does not “enjoy” being a momma dog, has complications during birth/nursing, or is not an “attentive” momma. We want what is best for our dams and our pups. If the dam seems to dislike the responsibilities of motherhood, is too rough, or is too timid, we believe it is best for her to not have to do it again.

-2- The necessity for early retirement for issues during whelping or nursing is self-explanatory.

Time to Retire

We retire our momma in their fourth year of life and our boys by their sixth. To us, it is important that our girls are not “over-used” or “worn out.” First and foremost, they are extremely loved pets, not puppy machines. As a result, our girls are bred until the age of three or four and then retired to live the rest of their life out in the lap of luxury without having to take care of puppies.

Unfortunately, because we retire so early, it would be irresponsible to keep every female we own. We would end up with more dogs than we could give proper attention to. This would not benefit ANYONE. Our dogs deserve individual attention and love. It would be wrong to own more dogs than we could properly love!

Rehoming our dogs is hard and tears are always shed. However, in my heart, I know that these girls will be loved. As an added bonus, I will see them again at the playdates!

Dog was Returned per Contract Agreement

Our contract states that if you cannot keep your dog, for any reason, that it should be returned to us. We do this to make sure your dog is placed in a home that was just as loving as yours. Unfortunately, sometimes life happens and there is some reason, medical or personal, that you are not able to keep your fur buddy. In this case, the dog is returned to us and we make sure that it is rehomed. This is much better than having to find a new home yourself. We are able to assess the dog in multiple situations to make sure that his/her new home is the right fit.

To Adopt a Golden Retriever:

  1. Live in a home with a back yard.
  2. To adopt some dogs, a requirement will be that there is already another dog in the house or the willingness to adopt two.
  3. For the first two years of ownership, it is required to come to one of our bi-annual playdates at least one time a year. (Not Required for non-Golden Rescues)
  4. Dogs under two that are not spayed/neutered must be spayed/neutered by new owner. This must be completed by the time the dog is 25 months of age.
  5. Dogs cannot be crated in their new home unless they are a “return” and have been previously crated.
